Studying the Linkages between Society and the Environment/Natural Resources in Northeast Asia Using GPR and Electromagnetic Remote Sensing Technologies

From groundwater and permafrost to energy, mineral resources, and vegetation, the environmental features of Northeast Asia are intimately connected to the activities of its inhabitants. My research focuses on development and applications of technology using satellite microwave remote sensing (SAR), ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic methods, and other types of electrmagnetic sensing to help humans utilize the environment with minimal adverse impact. I hope that the resulting technology can be put to practical work in the field of international cooperation, particularly through joint international projects to detect and remove land mines in Cambodia and Afghanistan or to measure groundwater in China, South Korea, Russia and Mongolia.
